Airlines designated by the Government of Canada may operate passenger services, passenger/combination services and/or all-cargo services in one or both directions on the following routes:

Points in Canada Intermediate Points Points in Algeria Points Beyond
Any or all points Any or all points A point to be designated by Canada Any or all points
Notes
  1. Points in Algeria shall be named and can be modified following sixty (60) days’ notice to the aeronautical authorities of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, or such lesser period of notice as may be agreed by the said authorities. Any intermediate point and/or point beyond may be omitted on any or all flights, provided that the point of origin or destination is in Canada.
  2. Transit rights and own stopover rights are available at intermediate points and at points in Algeria.
  3. Subject to the regulatory requirements normally applied by the aeronautical authorities of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, each designated airline of Canada may enter into co-operative arrangements for the purposes of:
    • operating the agreed services on the specified routes by code-sharing (i.e., selling transportation under its own code) on flights operated by an airline or airlines of Canada, of Algeria or of any third countries; and/or
    • carrying traffic under the code of any other airline where such other airline has been authorized by the aeronautical authorities of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to sell transportation under its own code on flights operated by an airline or airlines designated by Canada.

All airlines involved in code-sharing arrangements shall hold the appropriate authorizations with respect to the routes concerned.

The aeronautical authorities of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria shall not withhold permission for code-sharing services referred to in note 3 paragraph a) offered by an airline or airlines designated by Canada on the basis that the airline or airlines operating the aircraft are not authorized by the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to carry traffic under the code of the airline or airlines designated by Canada.

  4. The airline or airlines designated by Canada may, at any point on the specified routes and at their discretion, transfer traffic between aircraft without any limitation as to the type or number of aircraft, provided that, on the outbound direction, the transportation beyond these points is a continuation of the flight originating in Canada. Moreover, the return flight to Canada shall be a continuation of the flight originating from these points beyond. In both cases, all flights affected by the transfer shall have their point of origin or destination in Canada. Airlines are authorized to transfer traffic without restriction between aircraft providing code-sharing services.
  5. Should an airline designated by Canada provide a service to points behind its home country in connection with the routes specified above, public advertising or other forms of promotion by such airline in Canada or in third countries shall not employ the terms “single carrier” or “through service,” and shall state that such service is by connecting flights, even when for operational reasons a single aircraft is used. The flight number assigned to the services between Canada and Algeria shall not be the same as that assigned to flights behind the home country of the airline performing the service.
  6. For the purposes of paragraph 5 of article X of the Agreement, the Government of Canada may allocate among its designated airlines two weekly flights to be operated using their own aircraft in each direction, without restriction as to the type of aircraft. The authorities of People's Democratic Republic of Algeria shall not impose any restriction on the capacity or the frequency with respect to code-sharing services operated by a designated airline(s) of Canada on flights of other airlines.
