APPLICATION by ExxonMobil, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

File No.:

ExxonMobil applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “KASPAR SCHULTE”, a Liberian tanker, to transport approximately 50,000 tonnes of crude oil, in one voyage, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador to Halifax, Nova Scotia and/or Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec and/or Canaport, Saint John, New Brunswick and/or Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, commencing on or about April 29 and ending on or about May 27, 2013.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
