APPLICATION by P.F. Collins Customs Broker Ltd., on behalf of Western Geco, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "GECO TRITON", a Panamanian seismic research vessel, to conduct a 3-D seismic research survey, exclusively for the execution of a specific contract with Encana, in an area defined by the following coordinates: to the North, latitude 44.44176 and longitude 57.22565; to the East, latitude 44.27384 and longitude 57.11800; to the South, latitude 43.86903 and longitude 57.64013; and to the West, latitude 44.21165 and longitude 57.86300, during the period commencing on April 15, 2003 and ending on July 15, 2003.

P.F. Collins Customs Broker Ltd. has, on behalf of Western Geco, applied to the Minister of National Revenue for a licence to operate the service set out in the title. The matter was initially referred to the Canadian Transportation Agency on March 6, 2002, but was modified on March 14, 2003.

The Canadian Transportation Agency conducted a search of the relevant portion of the marine industry and has determined pursuant to subsection 8(1) of the Coasting Trade Act that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service or perform the activities described in the application.

This determination will be provided to the Minister of National Revenue for any necessary action as provided for in the Coasting Trade Act.

This Decision does not constitute an authority to commence operations in respect of the service for which application has been made.
