APPLICATION by Statoil Canada Ltd., pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

APPLICATION

Statoil Canada Ltd. applied, through its Canadian representative, for a licence to use the "SKANDI VEGA", a Norwegian anchor handling tug. The ship will be used to undertake the shipment and presetting of a complete mooring system for the "HENRY GOODRICH" mobile offshore drilling unit, upon its arrival at the drilling location in the Flemish Pass, commencing on June 15 and ending on August 15, 2011.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
