Decision No. 27-W-2015

January 30, 2015

APPLICATION by Statoil Marketing & Trading (US) Inc., pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

Case number:

Statoil Marketing & Trading (US) Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “AIAS”, a Liberian tanker, to transport approximately 675,000 barrels of Terra Nova crude oil and 225,000 barrels of Hibernia crude oil, in one voyage, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador, to Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec and/or Canaport, in Saint John, New Brunswick, and/or Halifax, Nova Scotia and/or Point Tupper, Nova Scotia and/or other locations within Atlantic Canada. The activity will commence on or about February 11 and end on or about March 11, 2015.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
