APPLICATION

Statoil Canada Ltd. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use an unnamed tanker to transport approximately 675,000 (+/‑ 5 percent) barrels of Terra Nova crude oil, in one voyage, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador, to Canaport, in Saint John, New Brunswick. The activity will start on or about November 10, 2016 and end on or about December 15, 2016.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
