APPLICATION

Seadrill Canada Ltd. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “WEST AQUARIUS”, a mobile offshore drilling unit registered in Panama, to undertake drilling activities for the exploration and development of petroleum resources off the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, exclusively in the continental shelf zone, starting on December 1, 2016 and ending on November 30, 2017.

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
