APPLICATION

Suncor Energy Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “GANGES SPIRIT”, a Bahamian tanker, to transport approximately 965,000 barrels of Hibernia crude oil, in one voyage, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador to Halifax, Nova Scotia and/or Point Tupper, Nova Scotia and/or Canaport, Saint John, New Brunswick and/or Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec, commencing on or about October 11 and ending on or about November 10, 2013.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
