Decision No. 453-W-2011
APPLICATION by Claes Fredriksson, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.
Claes Fredriksson applied for a licence to use the “LADY VENICE”, an Italian shuttle ferry, to offer excursions in Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo, British Columbia. It will also be used to test the market for future business activities. The activities will commence February 25 and end October 31, 2012.
Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service? Is there an identical or similar adequate marine service available from any person operating one or more Canadian ships?
FACTS AND DETERMINATIONS
Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service, and that there is no identical or similar adequate marine service available from any person operating one or more Canadian ships.
The Agency is providing these determinations to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
