Decision No. 472-W-2013

December 24, 2013

APPLICATION by EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd., A Tetra Tech Company, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

File No.:

EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd., A Tetra Tech Company applied for a licence to use the “R/V AQUILA”, an American research vessel, to collect sediment cores and samples for physical and environmental analyses as well as water quality and geophysical data in the Prince Rupert area of British Columbia, including Chatham Sound and Portland Inlet from Prince Rupert to Alice Arm, including Nasoga and Nass Inlets and Iceberg Bay, commencing December 12, 2013 and ending February 28, 2014.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry. In response to the notice, SuperPort Marine Services Limited (SuperPort) offered the “STRAIT HUNTER”, a Canadian vessel, to perform the proposed activity.

SuperPort subsequently withdrew its offer.

Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
