December 29, 2010

APPLICATION by OSG Overseas Ship Management (Canada) Inc. pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

File No. W9125/P5/10-57

OSG Overseas Ship Management (Canada) Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the "OVERSEAS PORTLAND", a Marshall Islands tanker to transport crude oil in one voyage, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador to Halifax, Nova Scotia and/or Canaport, Saint John, New Brunswick and/or Point Tupper, Nova Scotia and/or Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec, commencing on or about December 31, 2010 and ending on or about January 6, 2011.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
