APPLICATION by Technip Canada Limited, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "SKANDI ACHIEVER".

APPLICATION

Technip Canada Limited has, through its representative, applied for a licence to use the "SKANDI ACHIEVER", a dive support vessel from the Bahamas, to conduct a survey of the sunken cargo ship "CAP BLANC" off the coast of Marystown, Newfoundland and Labrador, using a remotely operated vehicle and then to deploy divers to retrieve four bodies from within the hull of the vessel, commencing December 15, 2008 and ending December 29, 2008.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
