APPLICATION by IT International Telecom Canada Inc., pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "IT INTREPID".

APPLICATION

IT International Telecom Canada Inc. applied, through its Canadian representative, for a licence to use the "IT INTREPID", a cable ship registered in Barbados, to conduct the repair of a submarine fibre optics cable using a remote operated vehicle in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, commencing on January 1, 2009 and ending on January 31, 2009.

ISSUE

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
