APPLICATION by Algoma Tankers, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

Algoma Tankers applied , through its representative, for a licence to use the "STEN IDUN", a petroleum/chemical tanker registered in Gibraltar, to transport clean petroleum products, in multiple voyages of up to 18,000 cubic metres per voyage, from Sarnia, Ontario to Montréal and/or Sept-Îles, Quebec and/or Nanticoke, Ontario and/or Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; from Nanticoke to Montréal and/or Sept-Îles and/or Sarnia and/or Dartmouth; from Montréal to Nanticoke and/or Sarnia and/or Oakville (Ontario); and from Saint-Romuald, Quebec to Nanticoke and/or Oakville and/or Sarnia. The activity will start on November 1, 2017 and will end on November 30, 2017.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this Determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Determination is not an authority to operate.
