Determination No. W-2018-103

May 10, 2018

APPLICATION by Irving Shipbuilding Inc., pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

Case number:

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the "BOABARGE 37", a semi-submersible heavy lift and launching cargo barge registered in Norway, to transport the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship vessels, once their construction is completed at the shipyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to a designated area in the Bedford basin, Nova Scotia, for a controlled launch of the vessels. The activity will start on September 8, 2018 and will end on September 29, 2018.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this Determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Determination is not an authority to operate.
